Fabrication technology for ASIC and VLSI designers: a postgraduate teaching perspective

The author describes the 10-lecture course given at Brunel University as part of the 1 year MSc. in Microelectronics Systems Design. 10 lectures represents 5% of the total lecture content and thus does not constitute a major part of the MSc., as the students also spend 200 hours on two design assignments. The aim of the lecture course is to introduce the students to fabrication techniques (including packaging) and to show how these impinge on the design process. The author provides an example presentation used in the lecture course as well as a comprehensive reference list of recommended texts (books and articles).<
