Notes on Propagation at a Wavelength of Seventy-Three Centimeters

Quantitative field strength observations have been made on a wavelength of 73 centimeters with improved apparatus. The methods are described. Propagation data have been obtained with the receiver installed in an automobile and an airplane. Further observations were made on the ground at a distance of 113 miles, 8000 feet below the line of sight from the transmitter. The results show the nature of the propagation of 73-centimeter waves over distances up to 175 miles. Below the transmitter's horizon, rapid attenuation occurs with increase in distance from the transmitter, the plane of polarization of the transmitted signal remains unchanged, and various types of fading are observed.
