Scanning limitations of ferroelectric LCDs

A dynamic model was derived explaining the main addressing properties of the surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal cells and reproducing even the most complex addressing modes. From the model, optimal addressing waveforms and their speed and contrast limitations can be computed and related to measurable cell parameters. The results obtained with the model are very encouraging, in spite of its simplicity. The dependence of the 'addressability' of a cell featuring a given switching pulse area on previously ignored properties seems now understood. The limitations in speed and contrast can now be related to addressing; relevant measurable cell properties and variational analysis techniques can be used to derive optimized row and column waveforms.<
