Characterization of transient operation modes for a 3-phase controlled rectifier under open-loop predictive ride-through control

A control strategy, referred to as open-loop predictive ride-through control, is presented and characterized for several transient operation modes. It is shown that it is possible to bring a three-phase rectifier system from a given initial-state to the desired steady-state in the minimum possible time. This provides the system with inherent ride-through capability, and thus eliminates the need for an uninterruptible power supply, if short-term line disturbances are a problem. Experimental data are given to verify the findings.<
