Reduced life-cycle cost through RMSH

After a railroad buys a fleet of vehicles, it often spends an equal amount or more on maintenance during the life of the fleet. Some of that expense could be avoided, in particular, the loss of revenue while the vehicle is undergoing repairs for random failures. A sample mainline electric locomotive is described, and it is shown what funds can be saved if the vehicle carries on board one or two spare units for selected critical assemblies.<
