Analysis of bandwidth allocation with wavelength preemption scheme for supporting relative service guarantees in OBS networks

Optical burst switching (OBS) is considered as a promising switching technique for building the next-generation Internet. One of critical design issues in OBS is how to provide quality-of-service (QoS) in optical networks. In this paper, we analyze bandwidth allocation with wavelength preemption (BA-WP) scheme for supporting relative service guarantees in OBS networks. We first propose the mathematical analysis of the burst blocking probability (BBP) for generalized probabilistic wavelength preemption algorithm. The BBP of a new arrival burst for a K-channel N-class system is presented. We then apply this model to BA-WP. The results of analytical loss model are investigated and compared with simulations. The simulation results validate our analytical model and support that the controllable burst loss probability for different service classes is achieved from BA-WP.
