Performance evaluation of optical communication systems using extreme value theory

In this paper, a performance estimation scheme based on the extreme value theory is applied to the optical communications for the first time. The results are promising compared with those obtained be the standard Gaussian approximation method and the multicanonical Monte Carlo method
