WITH the death of Peter Jennings, long-term anchor for ABC World News Tonight, many of his colleagues have described him in the most flattering terms. One word which kept cropping up was “demanding”. It was uttered by almost everyone who worked for him, sometimes with a critical overtone and sometimes not. The implication, however, appeared to be that he was a tough guy to work for. You had to know what you were talking about when you reported to Mr. Jennings. Since he was very probing in his analysis, you also had to know as much about the subject as possible.
