Optimal design of measurement points for power system state estimation

Power system state estimation is the process of estimating, from real time measurement data, the network power flows and busbar voltages. The authors analyse the relation between the total variance of state estimation errors and the locations of measurement points, and the parameters of the network. It is found that the total variance of the state estimation errors differ significantly when the same given number of measurements are placed at different locations in the network. The method utilises an optimal measurement tree which minimised the total variance of the state estimation errors.<
