Submicron-well device fabrication and analysis for bacteria detection

A novel designed submicron-well device, micron-size capacitor of titanium electrodes with gap size of 1,000/spl Aring/ was fabricated and measured the electrical field fluctuations in a fluid containing various strains of phage-infected bacteria. Before and after adding phages to the bacteria, the electrical field and displaying power density spectra were analyzed with various time and amplitude scales. As results, these fluctuations had power density spectra of approximately 1/f/sup 2/ shape in the frequency range of 1-10 Hz. Experiments with nonadsorbing phages showed neither the increase of fluctuations nor the slow dynamics.
