Fabrication of strong re-writable long-period fiber gratings with a CO/sub 2/ laser

We show that the sensitivity of boron-doped fibers to CO/sub 2/ radiation can be enhanced by a uniform pre-exposure. Resulting gratings could be erased with a similar uniform exposure and recorded again with no loss of fiber sensitivity.
