Sharpening the focus on EMF research

An overview is given of the issues that are emerging from studies of the possible health effects of exposure to electric and magnetic fields (EMFs). Chief among these is an apparent association between the incidence of leukemia in children and measures that characterize residential human exposures to magnetic fields according to the proximity, number, and size of power lines near homes, known as wire codes. Also receiving attention is the possible suppression of melatonin production as a mechanism linking EMF exposure and cancer. ERPI plans to sponsor the first laboratory studies to investigate whether magnetic fields suppress melatonin synthesis in humans are discussed.<
