A self-cascaded induction generator combined with a separately controlled inverter and a synchronous condenser

A major problem in the cage-type induction generator system is reactive power. One solution to this problem is to use a synchronous condenser, as noted in the work of B.T. Ooi and R.A. David (see Proc. Inst. Elec. Eng., vol.126, no.1, p.69-74, 1979), but the Ooi induction generator system has brushes, thus requiring frequent maintenance. The authors examine the Ooi induction generator system and substitute a self-cascaded induction machine for the wound rotor induction machine. The frequency converter of the induction generator system consists of a rectifier and a separately controlled inverter. The theoretical value obtained by quantitative analysis coincides with experimental results. Thus, the Ooi induction generator system can be improved by including a brushless synchronous condenser and a self-cascaded induction machine.<>
