Traffic controls for secured communications systems

Definition of SCS (secured communications systems) requirements is examined, and implementation to a conceptual hardware and software design approach to the traffic control and ranging (TCR) circuits is described. The traffic control functions of the SCS optimize the bandwidth of the plain-text data bus with no degradation of performance. The ideal location for the traffic control function is at the back end of the antenna, which bypasses up/down conversions of radio frequencies, as well as modulation and demodulation of baseband signals. However, locating the traffic control function at the back end of the antenna will require a digital transmitter and a digital receiver, which are not available today. The next ideal location for the traffic control function is the black side of the SCS, where it bypasses the cryptofunctions. Locating the traffic control function on the black side also enhances traffic rerouting functions, independently of the security levels, data rates, and cryptographic algorithms. Therefore, the satellite computer is free of the traffic control processing time.<
