Remarks on the emission coefficient of a bipolar transistor

The extent to which it is necessary-and the collector current range over which it is valid-to characterize the base-emitter junction of a bipolar transistor by a nonunity emission coefficient is clarified by a simple theoretical argument based on a consideration of base majority carrier charge.
