Satellite communication—An overview of the problems and programs

This paper introduces the subject of satellite communication in its broadest aspects, recounts its history and discusses the principal technical problems. It is primarily communications-oriented but relevant spacecraft and launch considerations are summarized. Tabular summaries of the world's satellite communication programs are given.
