Design of plasma chamber for IGNITOR tokamak

The new reference plasma disruption for IGNITOR produces a significant increase of electromagnetic (EM) loads requiring a dynamic elastic-plastic structural analysis of the IGNITOR plasma chamber (PC). A 30/spl deg/ sector of PC has been modeled. Static and dynamic analyses under the EM loads produced (by eddy and halo currents) during the reference disruption have been performed. It is shown that a PC wall thickness optimization allows for a displacement compatible with toroidal coil interference. The possibility of mitigating the disruption effects, by adding toroidal copper layers to the PC, has been also investigated showing that a benefit up to 20% in the EM loads could be achieved.
