Dependability benchmarking using environmental test tools

This paper presents benchmarking technique for computer dependability that relies on environmental test tools. Fault injection experiments, commonly relying on simulation, software and hardware techniques, are the most notable attempts to benchmarking dependability. A temperature and voltage operating test and an electrostatic discharge (ESD) operating test were employed. The computing systems under evaluation executed the Linpack benchmark, which is designed to measure performance of matrix computations and also, to capture possible numerical errors, silent corruption of data (SDC).
