High efficiency terahertz photoconducting sources by use of spatially shaped excitation

We demonstrate a new excitation technique which dramatically improves the power and efficiency of photoconductive THz sources. Using an extended line excitation we mitigate screening effects reaching an average THz power of 8 /spl mu/W at /spl sim/ 27 mW average optical power.
