Photonic crystal waveguides in triangular lattice of nanopillars

Photonic nanopillar waveguides have been analysed. Dielectric nanopillars are arranged in such way that they form a triangular lattice of 2D photonic crystal. Dispersion of the modes depends on the direction of the triangular lattice, /spl Gamma/-J or /spl Gamma/-X, in which the nanopillar arrays are extended. Light fields are confined within the nanopillar arrays and guided by reflection. Interaction of 1-row nanopillar waveguides gives rise to the coupling phenomena followed by the splitting of modes, anticrossing effect, folding of modes at the edge of the Brillouin zone and mini stopband formation. Transmission spectra calculated by the FDTD method completely reflect the peculiarities of mode dispersion, showing up to 80% transmission for a realistic SOI nanopillar structure.
