A sparse collimator for a rotating strip SPECT camera

This paper suggests the use of a sparse parallel slat collimator in a rotating SPECT camera. In our previous collimator design, the space between adjacent collimator slats is equal to the detector pixel size. In the new design, the space between the adjacent slats is doubled. That is, there are two detection pixels between the adjacent slats. This new design significantly simplifies the detector's hardware and reduces the detector spinning angle from 360/spl deg/ to 180/spl deg/ for acquiring a complete data set. The new collimator has been manufactured. Phantom experiments have been performed to verify the feasibility of the collimator.
