Discharge energy and dielectric breakdown of gamma-ray irradiated polybutylene naphthalate

This paper presents results obtained from research carried out with the purpose of dielectric breakdown of gamma ray irradiated polybutylene naphthalate under low pressure conditions. The total dose of gamma-ray irradiation effects on the discharge energy have been studied. A Gaussian wavelet analysis of discharge currents is applied to show these discharge energy levels. The changes of discharge energy are discussed with decreasing the atmospheric pressure in the range from 100 kPa to 1 kPa and increasing the frequencies of applied pulse voltage in the range from 100 Hz to 200 Hz. It is found that the erosion depth decreased with decreasing the atmospheric pressure and increasing the total dose of gamma-ray irradiation. The discharge energy decreased with increasing the total dose of gamma-ray irradiation and increased with decreasing the atmospheric pressure.
