Self-field compensation in high-current REB transported by Grad-B Drift in azimuthal magnetic field

Summary form only given. The goal of this work is experimental study of the electron beams current compensation when the beam is transported in an azimuthal magnetic field produced by the current carrying conductor. Helium or air was used as a background gas in the drift chamber. For the electron beam with energy of 600 keV and current of 90 kA the beam current compensation ran up to 60% with the current of the azimuthal magnetic field producing conductor being 35 kA. The efficiency of the beam energy transport at a distance of 1 meter was 95%. The beam current compensation level depends on the current increase rate when the beam is injected into the drift chamber. Some other factors that influence the beam current compensation level is discussed in the paper as well.
