Fault tolerant high speed network for space systems

A robust, dynamically reconfigurable topology is needed for multiple-fault tolerance and automatic repair on long missions or in reusable systems. A forward-loop backward-hop (FLBH) braided-mesh network is compared to the FDDI ANSI X3T9.5 standard to determine response time under varying traffic conditions using different routing algorithms. The results show that FLBH: has a better response time for similar traffic conditions; can carry about six times the traffic of an FDDI for a 15-node network; and offers a much wider range of reconfiguration capabilities. It is concluded that FLBA is a choice solution for a robust dynamically reconfigurable network.<
