An object-oriented approach to recoverable manufacturing control systems

An object-oriented analysis and design methodology that allows automatic recovery to be integrated into the initial software design is described. The software recovery methodology results from an object-oriented systems analysis which abstracts the problem into an information model. Data attributes represented on the information model are implemented utilizing a relational database. Objects on the information model are implemented as finite state machines. The basis for software recovery is that enough information can be obtained from the database and physical equipment to determine the state that each state model should return to at system start-up. This recovery principle holds true for complete system recovery as well as individual state-model recovery.<
