Pocket PACS:A DICOM viewing application for the pocket PC 2002 operating system

The popularity of handheld computers among physicians over the past several years has created a large demand for mobile applications. One such instance is an application allowing physicians to view medical images including laboratory slides, CT, MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound. An application that allows clinical staff, including physicians, to view medical images anytime, anywhere will benefit the delivery of healthcare. This application runs on a handheld device to display medical images that have been stored in DICOM format. The application has been tested at Baystate medical center in Springfield, Massachusetts by the radiology department's resident physicians. Microsoft's Embedded Visual Tools 3.0 will be used to develop the application in conjunction with several software development toolkits, such as Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 SDK.
