Calculating microstructured optical fiber loss using the finite-difference time-domain algorithm

We demonstrate the calculation of loss in microstructured optical fibers using the finite-difference time-domain algorithm. The method uses direct modal propagation with longitudinal periodic boundary conditions. We compare the results to existing methods.
