Robust nonlinear control of a magnetic suspension system

The main goal of this paper is to seek the potential applicability level of the nonlinear based approaches that have recently been developed. So then, the present paper is concerned with the application of backstepping based approach for designing robust stabilizing controller of a magnetic suspension system. Although classical regulators are still more popular in many real world applications, the industrial competitiveness merely push in the way of getting more and more system's performance. Numerical simulations as well as experimental results, by using the proposed nonlinear controller, are shown to be satisfactory in terms of the expected robustness with respect to parametric uncertainties. The asymptotic stability is guaranteed by Lyapunov theory.
