Measurement of the vibrational relaxation rates of far infrared laser relevant molecules

The vibrational relaxation rates were measured for methanol-SF/sub 6/ and for methanol-He collisions by infrared-far infrared spectroscopy. It was found that the vibrational relaxation rate is higher for methanol-He collisions than for methanol-SF/sub 6/ collisions, confirming the higher increment of the output power of the far-infrared lasers using He buffer gas in comparison to the use of SF/sub 6/.<
