Applications of electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures in microwave antenna designs

A mushroom-like EBG structure is utilized to design low profile circularly polarized curl antennas and microstrip antennas with suppressed surface waves. Experiments have demonstrated the validity of these designs. The EBG structure shows unique features for various wireless communication applications.
