Secondary students' attitudes towards using computers as a learning tool: some New Zealand observations

Secondary students' attitudes towards computers as learning tools are examined in this paper. The paper presents the results from the first phase of a study of Year 9-13 (K8-12) secondary school students undertaken in the regional area of Otago in southern New Zealand after a substantial injection of local funding to these schools to improve the levels of hardware and connectivity. Responses from 235 students from twenty-five rural, provincial and urban secondary schools are included in this paper. Generally, students were positive about the use of computers, however, a number of differences relating to students' gender, the location of their school and their year level were identified.
