Signal restoration using a modified version of Jansson's iterative deconvolution method

A modification of Jansson's method of iterative convolution to allow convergence for a broader class of distorted signals is discussed. This modification consists of a cross-correlation operation of both the distorted signal and its distortion operator prior to the start of the deconvolution. Its performance is evaluated. Test cases include deconvolving spectral peak data at various signal-to-noise ratios and degrees of resolution. For benchmark purposes, other conventional prefiltering schemes are presented. The use of the cross-correlation filter provides the best error performance and measurement repeatabilities. The cross-correlation prefiltering operation allowed restoration of signals that would otherwise not be possible given severe noise and overlap conditions.<
