Application of LOS microwave propagation data to channel modeling and outage prediction issues

Propagation data collected on a 99.4-km link that is part of the US Defense Communications System in Europe is discussed. Propagation data recorded during the 18-month experiment included received signal level on each of the two space diversity receivers, several measures of in-band power difference, and data from a dual-channel line-of-sight (LOS) channel probe. Despite the extensive research which has been conducted in the development of LOS channel models and in outage prediction methodology for digital microwave radio links, a number of technical issues remain. The application of an extensive LOS microwave propagation database to these issues is described. The nature of these unresolved technical issues is discussed, and additional propagation data relevant to the resolution of these issues is provided.<
