Migration of fault tolerant networks

The migration from today's network to the restorable network of the future is discussed. Three categories of topologies are discussed in detail: dedicated (unidirectional, hybrid, or counter rotating) rings or route diversity; shared (bidirectional or reverse protection) rings; and mesh. Dedicated transport solutions are contrasted against general-purpose cross-connects with an emphasis on restoration times, economics, growth, and administration.<
