Instrumentation for measuring the small-scale irregularities of the sea surface and the sea bed

A recent programme of research has been, concerned with underwater acoustic reverberation originating at the sea surface and sea bed. As part of the work involved finding a relationship between the level of the reverberation and the profile of the insonified boundary it was essential to measure the variations in height of the particular surface to a high degree of accuracy.
