THE MULTIPLIER that will be described is one result of a continuing program at the MIT research laboratory of electronics, which aims at developing circuits and techniques for high-efficiency, versatile frequency multipliers for millimeter-wave local oscillators and power sources. It is obvious that efficiency is of prime importance if reasonable solid state power sources from 10 to 100 Ge are to become competitive with klystron sources now available. Hence circuits have been developed with two major points in mind: first, circuits should exhibit high efficiency; second circuits should be versatile enough so that many different diode type can be evaluated simply.
