The Development of a New U.K. Wave Height Measuring Buoy

As a result of the National Maritime Institute's extensive experience in the use of unattended wave height monitoring equipment in coastal waters, it became apparent that there were several areas where improvements were desirable. A development programme in conjunction with a commercial company was undertaken to produce a new wavebuoy. The programme, the buoy and the various calibrations and trials are described in detail in this paper.
