Rapid, and general method of assessing interference effects on space-to-space communications

The author presents a novel, simple, and quite general method of assessing the effects of interference (or any non-white bandpass signal) in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) (space-to-space) communication channel. The degradation curves due to interference are obtained without the large computation times required in order to get accurate simulation results. Moreover, the computations involved accommodate all signal-to-noise ratios. Only the knowledge of the interference power spectral density and of the receiver's input bandpass filter (BPF) frequency response is required. The degradation curves thus obtained are compared with conventional simulation results, validating this method. The effect of the receiver's input BPF bandwidth on error performance is also considered.<
