Experiment Demonstration of Novel Strong PUF With SOT P-Bit as Dynamic Entropy Source

The physical unclonable function (PUF) serves as an important hardware security primitive for the Internet of Things (IoT). However, the proneness to machine learning attacks hinders its pragmatic usage. In this work, a novel strong PUF is proposed and experimentally demonstrated with our ultrafast field-free P-Bit. Distinct from the conventional PUF, this novel PUF (Ising PUF) employs Ising computation to extract responses from the dynamic entropy sources (DESs). By utilizing SOT P-Bits as DESs, the Ising PUF offers resistance to machine learning attacks. Through analysis of device variation, we found that a compensation range of 40%–80% achieves optimal performance for the Ising PUF. Experimental validation and performance evaluation indicate that our proposed Ising PUF is a promising, strong PUF solution.
