Optimal design of a modified code tracking loop

Optimal design rules are presented for a noncoherent code tracking loop in DS-SS systems. The loop studied here is the modified code tracking loop. Two criteria are considered: the mean time to loss of lock (MTLL) and the probability of error (P/sub e/) in the data due to imperfect synchronization. The MTLL is calculated by solving Kolmogorov's partial differential equation using the singular perturbation method. It is shown that errors in the tracking loop have a nonnegligible effect on P/sub e/ for the DPSK case. Simple design rules are obtained.<
