The reduction of undamped oscillations with relay controls

An explanation is presented for diverging responses which have been reported in the literature when relay-type of controls are applied to linear systems which exhibit undamped oscillations. The divergence problem is caused by the design method and may for some systems be avoided by means of a modified design procedure.
