Basic studies on extrusion molded joints for high-voltage XLPE cables

The relation between jointing condition and interface microcavity generation was investigated for extrusion molded joints (EMJs) for XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) cable. In addition, the relation between jointing condition and water generation in the cable's reheated part was studied for the purpose of finding the optimum jointing condition that does not degrade electrical characteristics. Ways to eliminate microcavities on the interface and extra-long bow-tie trees in the middle layer of the reheated part have been investigated.<
