Power Sharing Capability of Fast Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles

For more than two decades, Electric Vehicles (EVs), battery charging stations (BCS), and their control have gained the attention of researchers and innovators. Very soon, conventional vehicles will be replaced by the most recommended and efficient plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), battery electric vehicles (BEV), or pure electric vehicles (PEV). According to researchers and inverters' points of view, around 80% of the vehicles in public transport and other modes of transport vehicles will run on non-conventional energy sources, out of which the majority stakeholder will be BEV. It is required to develop and establish charging stations with more capacity, and with a robust controller such as Public Charging Stations (PCS) near the vicinity of every individual such as gas, petrol, or diesel stations. Also, for the proper regulation, it is necessary to have an amendment through which site selection, the distance between two BCS, their ratings, types of vehicles, types of chargers, charge controller, no. of charging points, its ratings, etc., should be focused. This paper focuses on various parts of DC fast charging stations (DC-FCS), their selection criterion, ratings, selection of AC or DC micro grid, the importance of rapid, and ultra-rapid chargers, superchargers, slow chargers, specifications of charging connector types, and cables, etc., In this paper, battery sizing calculation, various standards, selection of loads, and the duty cycle of DC loads connected to the battery was analyzed.
