Autoswitching ADRC-Based Approach for Enhanced Speed Control and Torque Ripple Minimization in Switched Reluctance Motors

In this article, an autoswitching upgraded active disturbance rejection control (ASADRC) scheme for switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives is proposed to enhance dynamic response and steady performance, especially in torque ripple minimization. Linear active disturbance rejection control (LADRC) possesses fast dynamic responses, but it cannot estimate the precise disturbances, and then fails to achieve a smooth control in the face of severe nonlinearities. As the SRM experiences nonlinear and time-varying characteristics, nonlinear active disturbance rejection control (NLADRC) is better for handling these uncertainties in a steady-state, providing more precise control, and minimizing torque ripple. The proposed ASADRC combines the advantages of NLADRC in steady-state conditions and LADRC in transient conditions. In the autoswitching control mode, the speed controller using ASADRC can automatically switch to the most suitable control algorithm based on the tracking error, ensuring optimal performance across a wider range of scenarios. The robustness of speed control and the effectiveness of torque ripple minimization of the proposed scheme are validated through extensive experiments on a three-phase 5.5 kW 12/8 SRM setup.
