Mode coupling in tapered optical waveguide structures and electro-optic switches (Invited Papaer)

Mode coupling in optical parallel waveguide transitions is reviewed in terms of local normal modes. Analytic solutions for power transfer are provided for separating waveguides and tapered velocity couplers. General requirements for the low crosstalk operation of a crossed\Delta \betaelectro-optic channel waveguide switch are derived.
