Semiconductor laser arrays with enhanced mode stability

An analysis is presented which shows how a semiconductor laser array with a highly uniform intensity distribution for the fundamental mode can be constructed. The high uniformity is desirable for improved modal stability at high-power levels because the effect of spatial hole burning is strongly reduced.
