Operation of a CO2mixing laser at atmospheric pressure

This letter describes a quasi-CW CO
2
mixing laser which operates at atmospheric pressure. An average laser output power of 12 kW has been achieved. However, "mode-medium" interactions result in a highly modulated output at frequencies around 40 kHz.
