Measurement–An Exciting Journey Across Centuries

Measurement has probably been the first scientific activity undertaken by humankind since the beginning of its adventure. The modern measurement science—metrology—is the result of a long and exciting journey across the centuries and has always represented one of the most powerful tools to improve our knowledge. This article is aimed at providing a synthetic survey of this long journey, showing how metrology has, at the same time, influenced the way our civilization has developed and has been influenced by this development.
