Mode coupling and distributed feedback lasers in periodic fiber waveguides

Coupling between transverse electric guided modes in a fiber with a periodic perturbation of the index of refraction in either the core or the cladding is studied. The application of periodic fiber waveguides to distributed feedback lasers is discussed.
