Flow effect of supercritical helium on the stability of a hollow superconducting coil (SHETEM2a) with thermal load

The influence of mass flow rate and thermodynamic state, and heating intensity on the stability of a hollow superconducting coil cooled by supercritical helium (SHE) was analyzed when the entire conductor was uniformly heated. The hollow conductor was 87 m long and had a 3.0-mm-ID cooling channel. It was found that the coil was fully safe when the thermal load which was given to the conductor for the transit time of SHE in the coil was smaller than the energy needed to increase the SHE temperature to the critical temperature of the coil.
